The iPhone 5 could do better.

Wow, the iPhone 5, it's finally here. No more rumors, no more predictions, it's right here in front of all of us. The iPhone is one of the most talked about things today, it garners so much attention and I think it's fun to see people talk about it. Apple will sell millions of these no doubt, but there still are pros and cons about this device.

I have to give Apple some props, the iPhone looks downright gorgeous. If you look closes at the edges of the device you will see my favorite feature those shiny edges, I have no clue why they stick out to me so much but they look amazing. I beleive Apple has got hardware in the bag, as I see it, they are miles ahead of the likes of HTC, and lightyears ahead of Samsung. (As you can tell I'm not a fan of plastic.) The camera has seen a pretty nice bump in quality and adds panorama mode. Apple has made a big deal over panorama mode which definitely does not need that much attention. My dad's old Sensation 4G (which was released before the iPhone 4s mind you) has that feature. Yea, that's how bad Apple over-hyped it's panorama feature. Going back to the actual camera quality it looks pretty impressive but still gets knocked off by the flagship Nokia Lumia 920. Other than that device it looks as if Apple has got everyone else beat.  People say that the A6 internals and everything Apple put into the 5 make it the most powerful smartphone to date. I disagree, the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, and Galaxy Note II all boast better processors and I find it hard to beleive that the 5 bests them.
Now to the software, yea, this is where this post goes downward. It seems like every post I make I end up bashing one device or the other and the iPhone will not escape my wrath.

I think most people can see this by now, but iOS is boring and stale. I can't even fathom how people thought Windows Phone was boring when iOS has been the same grid of icons since 2007! Really Apple, do something different, please, your going the path of RIM, except you still make a huge profit. There have been so many hopes and dreams that Apple would do something different, but sadly they haven't, and I won't bet on them doing that anytime soon. Now that we hav e moved on from my little rant there, let's actually talk about the software. Everything still works smoothly but there still are huge problems.

Settings
All of the settings are still in one place which is not ideal at all. Say I wanted to change one of the settings in my Evernote app, I would have to press the home button, tap the settings icon (which could be a couple of screens away, depending on placement) scroll to Evernote, tap it, scroll to the setting that I'm looking for, change it, double tap the home button, and go back into the  Evernote application. That's at least eight steps to change a setting. Yeah, eight.
Note to Apple: This is the year 2012 and we expect things to better than they were five years ago!

Maps
Well isn't this a sore topic for Apple. Apple replaced Google Maps with their own solution and boy has it been a flop! Apple Maps has been a total letdown and lacks plenty of features that users have been accustomed to since 2007. Anyone live in a big city where public transit directions are a must? Sorry you're going to have to look to a third party developers to fill that void.
Note to Apple: We don't like stepping backwards in functionality, It's counterproductive and doesn't make sense. The biggest problem with Maps is that it does't have as much data as Google, therfore, plenty of people will find it insufficient. Say it's your first time traveling to the States and you look at the image of the Statue of Liberty, you would think it got stepped on. (Literally, the SoL is as flat as a pancake.) Apple has issued an apology and it's a shame that Apple couldn't have made it better (especially since they had a year left on the contract with Google) and released it at a later date. But hey, an apology is better than what they said about the iPhone 5 camera. http://www.technobuffalo.com/companies/apple/apple-acknowledges-purple-iphone-5-lens-flare-says-to-angle-camera-differently

High Expectations
I could go on and on about how Apple did everything wrong with the iPhone 5 but the biggest problem of the all is the high expectations. Apple has let us down with the iphone 4s and the 5. Even though we should lower our expectations, it still honest change the fact that Apple just isn't  going to produce a product Dont't get me wrong, the iPhone 5 is a great device, it's really the doftware espectations that kill it.

Apple, the iPhone 5 could be better. Sadly, you can't just change it and it's all good. Please, just do better on the next one.
